About the role
The Sommelier plays a crucial role in enhancing the guest dining experience by curating and managing the restaurant’s wine program. This position reports to the Restaurant Manager.
Responsibilities
- Work with Restaurant or General Manager once a week to conduct wine tastings during pre-service
- Aid in the hiring and training of new staff for the restaurant
- Ensure all wine lists are current and maintain the wine cellar, wine fridge, and wine wall
- Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of special wine events and promotions
- Benchmark and innovate on product, training, organization, and systems related to wine service and restaurant operations
- Conduct monthly inventory, collaborating with the wine director and accounting to resolve discrepancies
- Complete tasks and projects delegated by supervisors and assist other departments as needed
- Participate in emergency and security procedures as directed
Qualifications
- College preferred or hotel/restaurant training
- 3 years in a fine dining establishment
- Successful completion of advanced level of The Court of Master Sommeliers preferred
- Proficient knowledge in wine, food, and cooking methods
- Knowledge of F&B finance models, including pricing, inventory COGS, and analysis
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with Spanish proficiency a plus
- Strong time management and ability to work under stress
- Ability to present and speak in public
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
