About the role

Scale plays a vital role in the development of AI applications, and healthcare and life sciences is one of the highest‑stakes areas where that work lands. Providers, payers, pharma, biotech, and medical‑device companies are moving AI from pilot to production against real regulatory and patient‑safety constraints. As Solutions Engineering Lead for Healthcare & Life Sciences, you’ll be a player‑coach: managing and growing a team of 3‑5 Solutions Engineers while personally owning the most strategic accounts in the vertical. You’ll set the technical bar for how Scale sells and deploys into regulated healthcare environments, build reusable assets and playbooks, and serve as the go‑to person for Sales, Product, and Engineering when a deal hinges on a hard clinical or compliance question.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and grow a team of 3‑5 Solutions Engineers, setting expectations, running deal reviews, developing careers, and hiring as the vertical scales.
  • Personally own the technical win on strategic healthcare and life‑sciences accounts, staying hands‑on in demos, prototypes, and architecture conversations.
  • Build the vertical’s technical playbook: reference architectures, demo environments, evaluation frameworks, and SOW patterns for reuse across the GTM organization.
  • Serve as the domain authority on deploying GenAI under healthcare constraints, including PHI handling, de‑identification, HIPAA, HITRUST, validation, audit expectations, and clinical workflow adoption.
  • Partner with Account Executives and GTM leadership on account strategy, technical qualification, and pilot scoping that converts into production deployments.
  • Work with forward‑deployed Software and Machine Learning Engineers to carry solutions from initial design through early implementation.
  • Translate patterns across accounts into structured, prioritized input for Product and Engineering, influencing the roadmap on behalf of the vertical.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering background with significant experience in a customer‑facing technical role (solutions engineering, solutions architecture, forward‑deployed engineering, or technical consulting), including hands‑on development in Python or a similar language.
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical individual contributors; a credible track record as a tech lead or team lead is essential.
  • Direct experience selling, building, or deploying software in healthcare or life sciences, with fluency in regulatory and data‑privacy environments (PHI, HIPAA, validation requirements).
  • Presentation skills with high technical credibility before clinical or executive stakeholders and front‑line engineers, coupled with intellectual curiosity, empathy, and the ability to operate quickly in a fast‑moving vertical.

Nice to haves

  • Hands‑on experience with GenAI, LLMs, or applied machine learning, especially evaluation and model validation in a regulated setting.
  • Clinical, biomedical, or pharma domain background (clinical informatics, EHR integration, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, or R&D).
  • Experience standing up a new vertical, practice, or team from an early stage.

Pay

Base salary range for this full‑time position in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle is $212,000 — $265,000 USD. Compensation packages include base salary, equity, and benefits, with the final amount determined during the interview process based on location, skills, experience, and other factors.

  • Retirement benefits
  • Learning and development stipend
  • Generous paid time off (PTO)
  • Commuter stipend (where applicable)
