About the role
San Francisco Sales Hybrid Full-time BackOps is seeking a Solutions Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will own the technical relationship with our customers from initial discovery through go-live, ensuring successful implementation and seamless transition to Customer Success.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Account Executives to translate customer's operational problems into BackOps solutions.
- Dig into customer workflows to identify gaps, missing edge cases, and hidden dependencies.
- Lead technical demos and Proof of Concept (POC) sessions, addressing technical objections in real time.
- Scope and execute POCs, defining success criteria and showing measurable value before signature.
- Translate ambiguous customer requirements into technical reality, researching APIs and proposing solutions.
- Configure, integrate, and deploy the solution, managing stakeholders through go-live.
- Act as the gatekeeper for Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE), deciding when to involve them and owning the overall timeline.
- Communicate effectively with executives and stakeholders, translating technical constraints into non-technical terms.
- Warm-hand off to Customer Success Managers (CSMs) when the customer achieves their first measurable value.
- Contribute to the product feedback loop by funneling reusable patterns and recurring gaps back to Product and Engineering.
Requirements
- 5-8 years of experience in a technical pre- or post-sales role, ideally with both scopes and deliveries.
- Hyper-observant and analytical skills, able to read between the lines and anticipate potential issues.
- Strong technical research and hands-on skills, including familiarity with API documentation and integration platforms.
- Project and resource management experience, prioritizing based on impact rather than stakeholder volume.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, able to defend technical architectures in front of skeptical customer IT teams.
- Commercially aware, understanding the financial implications of technical decisions and influencing deals without negotiating commercials.
- Ownership mentality, taking responsibility for outcomes and proactively addressing issues.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a Forward Deployed Engineering model (e.g., Palantir, Scale AI, C3 AI).
- Hands-on experience with integration platforms, iPaaS tools, or workflow automation.
- Background in AI/agentic product deployment, shipping products where the "product" includes model behavior.
- Experience making the jump from pre-sales into delivery or vice versa.
Skills
- Technical fluency in logistics, supply chain, freight, 3PL, or related operations technology.
- Experience with integration platforms, iPaaS tools, or workflow automation.
- Knowledge of AI and its application in product deployment.
