Solutions Architect – Data Architecture & Engineering

About the role

Tacoma Public Utilities is seeking a Solution Architect – Data Architecture & Engineering to design and build scalable data solutions, build reliable data pipelines, and shape how data supports decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Data Architecture | Design and develop data architectures, integrations, and pipelines supporting analytics, reporting, operational needs, and future AI capabilities.
• Data Engineering | Build and maintain data pipelines and engineering solutions enabling efficient movement, transformation, and availability of enterprise data.
• Subject Matter Expert | Serve as a trusted advisor for data architecture and engineering decisions, collaborating with business and technical teams to evaluate solutions, recommend best practices, and translate complex concepts into practical outcomes.
• Community Participation | Stay informed about evolving data technologies, architecture practices, and industry trends, sharing knowledge with the broader data community and contributing to TPU’s growth in data maturity.
• Advanced Analytics & AI | Play a hands-on role in preparing data and partnering on analytics and AI projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in information technology or a directly related field.
• Minimum Experience: 5 years of data engineering, architecture, or administration experience, including cloud data warehouse technology and AWS or Azure big data ecosystem experience, with at least one year at a senior, lead, or supervisory level.
