Solutions Architect 2
About the role
Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, seeks a Solutions (Application) Architect 2 to join our team. The ideal candidate will drive the definition, design, and implementation of technology reference implementations, shared components, and core application frameworks using the Microsoft technology stack, third-party services, and proprietary builds. This role will align the business mission, strategy, and processes with IT strategy and document these using multiple architectural models.
Responsibilities
- Works with members of the architecture portfolio to make recommendations in activities related to the design, development, and maintenance of Enterprise Architecture strategies, processes, methodologies, and models.
- Promotes the development of common reusable enterprise technology solutions while respecting the main principles of Domain Driver Design (DDD).
- Affirms the immediate and long-term strategic goals of the organization and participates in managing the technology roadmap.
- Promotes the adoption of the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) and integrates it into the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to raise security awareness in application development.
- Ensures technology solutions are aligned with solution patterns, application frameworks, and the technology roadmap.
- Identifies and implements new solutions for research and participates in proof of concept initiatives to explore new architectural strategies.
- Designs, customizes, and implements robust, secure, scalable systems across n-tier platforms.
- Promotes the development of technical infrastructure and standards.
- Supports the new enterprise architecture (ENCORE) and evaluates roadmaps for opportunities to improve and modernize legacy processes, including cloud strategy, DevOps, and technical delivery excellence.
- Works with lines of business, support staff, and technology areas to design a technical structure based on existing standards and processes, meeting the strategic needs of the business, and integrating with other business and IT processes.
- Defines optimal application architecture strategy for migration to the cloud.
Requirements
- Education: B.A./B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology (or alternate degree with significant IT-related and leadership experience)
- Experience: Minimum 7 years in software engineering and application development, with at least 3 years in enterprise, application, technical, or information architecture.
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Visual Studio 2015 or 2017 (or higher), TFS/Git and AzureDevOps; Familiarity with REST APIs, Dependency Injection, Dapper, test automation components; Effectively applies technical knowledge to develop technical solutions to new or complex problems.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with modern software development environments that incorporate Agile and CI/CD/DevOps.
- Experience with Web UI technologies such as JavaScript, CSS/SCSS/LESS, MVC, Bootstrap, Kendo UI, JQuery.
- Experience with Microsoft technologies, including Microservices, NoSQL, AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker/Kubernetes, Service Fabric, and Logic App.
- Strong knowledge of security, including risks and threats, authentication, authorization, certificates, encryption, and familiarity with OWASP.
Skills
- Technical knowledge of application delivery methods and familiarity with how portfolios of systems work together to create enterprise solutions.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, Dependency Injection, Dapper, test automation components.
- Effectively applies technical knowledge to develop technical solutions to new or complex problems.
