About the role
The Databricks Architect leads the design, architecture, and implementation of the Data Intelligence Platform Enablement Framework. This role establishes and enforces architecture standards, best practices, and technical patterns across the enterprise data ecosystem, ensuring scalable, secure, and governed solutions built on Databricks and Azure. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who provides technical direction to engineering teams, guides platform adoption, and ensures the Data Intelligence Platform enables analytics, AI, data products, and self-service consumption across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Serve as subject-matter expert for greenfield Databricks implementation in Azure.
- Design and enforce Unity Catalog and security standards within Databricks.
- Redesign Unity Catalog permissions to achieve granular, row-level security and reduce broad access; solution may use Terraform or native Databricks controls.
- Collaborate with the networking team to provision and manage Databricks infrastructure via Terraform, including training networking staff on Databricks and Terraform.
- Lead the design of secure networking endpoints to enable Databricks integration with Power Apps, a newly acquired SQL Server, and LakeBase for real-time AI readiness.
- Address overly restrictive cloud firewall constraints and bridge the gap between Azure Databricks and other Azure services in a zero-trust environment.
- Establish audit and compliance processes for the data platform.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in modern Lakehouse Architecture and enterprise data platforms.
- Hands-on Terraform provisioning experience.
- Proven track record of redesigning Unity Catalog permissions and security models.
- Ability to train and guide infrastructure teams lacking Databricks and Terraform skills.
- Experience designing secure networking endpoints and troubleshooting cloud firewall constraints.
