Solid Waste Truck Driver

About the role

The Solid Waste Services Division of Edmond Public Works provides waste collection and disposal services to residential households and commercial establishments within Edmond. Services include collection of weekly waste, curbside recycling, monthly bulk items, and city-coded bag disposal. The Solid Waste Truck Driver will perform skilled work by operating heavy-duty packer refuse collection trucks.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty packer refuse collection trucks
• Dump residential carts or commercial style containers into the truck
• Transport waste to the transfer station, which may include servicing roll off containers
• Leave notifications for customers
• Report violations of regulations to the supervisor
• Read & understand route sheets to determine street address & type of services needed
• Leave notice messages and/or instructions to homeowners about special services
• Maintain equipment by performing minor vehicle maintenance, such as: checking tire inflation, cleaning the cab, washing the truck’s exterior
• Report any maintenance needs to the supervisor or to the garage

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
• 2 years related experience in solid waste management (preferred)
• A valid Class "B" Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License with required endorsements (preferred)

Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Basic mathematical skills
• Ability to operate required machinery
• Ability to learn proper operation of front load, roll off, & fork truck containers
• Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
• Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screenings

Pay

Starting Salary: $18.89–$20.67 (depending on experience and CDL qualifications)
