Solid Waste Technician - Clerk Hire

About the role

The Public Works Department’s Solid Waste Division is seeking a customer service-oriented individual to join the Transfer Station team in Port Townsend.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in the Scale House
• Process transactions
• Direct traffic on the tipping floor
• Support safe and efficient operations

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED and valid WA State Driver’s License
• Customer service skills
• Attention to safety procedures
• Ability to work in an active outdoor environment

Qualifications

• Responsible for safely and efficiently assisting with solid waste collection operations at a County transfer station or drop box site
• Handle customer transactions
• Inspect incoming waste for unacceptable materials
• Direct vehicles during unloading
• Maintain clean and organized facilities
• Support administrative tasks
• Provide courteous assistance to the public

Benefits

This position has no benefits, except sick leave. This position earns one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked.

Pay

$21.00 per hour

Schedule

Facility is operated Monday – Saturday. Flexible scheduling may be provided depending on operational needs.
