Solid Waste Recycling Specialist

Position Details

The University of Vermont is seeking a Solid Waste Recycling Specialist to join our team. The position involves collecting and hauling recyclable materials, refuse, organic material, and surplus property at university locations. Duties also include supporting work such as cleaning and light maintenance of recycling team equipment and snow removal as required, providing furniture/equipment moving services as requested, promoting a safe workplace, and inputting/retrieving work-related data using appropriate desktop applications. Operates University vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

• High School Diploma and valid driver’s license and driver check required.
• Ability to operate and safely maneuver large trucks in congested areas required.
• Ability to read basic written instructions and complete written route sheets and forms required.
• Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions (ability to move or roll heavy containers up to 100 lbs. and able to work with no lifting restrictions; ability to lift 50 lbs. and up lift 100 lbs. with co-worker).
• Employment contingent upon successful completion of physical screening.
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing specific job tasks required.

Anticipated Pay Range

$21.50-$24.00/hour

Special Conditions

• A probationary period may be required.
• Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime).
• This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions.

• A post-offer pre-employment (POPE) physical examination is required.
