General Definition of Work
Performs difficult professional work planning and supervising all activities at a recreation center and the Train Depot. Supervision is exercised over full and part-time employees at both centers.
Essential Functions
- Manages, organizes and coordinates the staff and operations of the four components of Sugar Sand Park Community Center: Willow Theatre, Community Center, Children Science Explorium and Science Playground;
- Creates, maintains, furnishes written reports, correspondence, data and provides documentation;
- Manages and coordinates facility maintenance and repairs performed by outside vendors;
- Forescasts, develops, justifies and administers Sugar Sand Park community center budget and special interest accounts;
- Plans, organizes programs and supervises participants utilizing the Recreation Center and Train Depot;
- Enforces Center policies and maintain order;
- Initiates and formulates plans for future development of Theatre, Community Center, and Science Center Programs to meet demands of public;
- Schedules Center workers for programs and special events;
- Write specifications, requisitions, FPO’s and prepares letters to council;
- Supervises training and schedules the work of Center and Department staff; evaluates employees work performance;
- Develops new programs for participants, makes community contacts, recruits instructors, determines fees and schedules, prepares news releases;
- Coordinates and stimulates recreational activities;
- Prepares budget for programs and Center; helps monitor and control expenditures.
- Handles day to day operations of center;
Related Tasks
- Addresses complaints, resolves problems;
- Establishes and maintains relationships with community groups and citizens;
- Collects fees for instructors, special events and private grounds;
- Inspects center equipment for proper condition and safety;
- Supervises participants utilizing recreation center; enforces center policies and maintains order;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of the operation of a recreation center;
- Thorough knowledge of games and indoor activities and related rules and regulations;
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation planning, programming and operations;
- Ability to maintain order in a public facility;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, associates and the general public;
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates.
- Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field;
- Graduation from accredited university or college with a BS/BA in recreation or related field, with 2 years experience in operating and supervising a recreation center and extension experience in Recreation Programming including some administrative experience.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver’s license and FRPA Certified Leisure Professional is preferred.
