Solid Waste Engineer

About the role

As a Solid Waste Engineer for Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc. (CEC) in the Houston, TX office, you will work on civil and environmental engineering projects primarily associated with solid waste facilities. Your work will contribute to the overall completion of landfill design, construction, and certification projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform airspace, excavation, and fill volume calculations.
• Prepare, review, and compile technical reports.
• Design stormwater management systems.
• Design landfill grading, leachate collection, and landfill gas collection systems.
• Conduct field work including Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) for landfill cell and cap construction.
• Perform environmental monitoring of landfill facilities.
• Interact with CEC office and field staff, clients, and contractors.

Requirements

• B.S. in Civil Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
• 7–10 years of professional engineering experience.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with industrial hazardous waste (IHW) and oil & gas waste.
• Strong project management skills.
• Experience in waste permitting, construction design, CQA, groundwater monitoring, and operations support.
• Ambition to learn and apply new skills.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, HEC‑RAS, or other computer modeling software.
