Solid Waste Engineer

About the role

As a Solid Waste Engineer for Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc. (CEC) in Austin, TX, you will work on civil and environmental engineering projects primarily associated with solid waste facilities. Your efforts will contribute to the overall completion of landfill design, construction, and certification projects, collaborating with office and field staff, clients, and contractors. CEC is consistently ranked as a Top 500 Design Firm and Top 200 Environmental Firm by Engineering News‑Record.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations for airspace, excavation, and fill volumes.
• Prepare, review, and compile technical reports.
• Design storm‑water management systems, landfill grading, leachate collection, and landfill gas collection systems.
• Assist with field work, including Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) for landfill cell and cap construction and environmental monitoring of landfill facilities.
• Interact with CEC office and field staff, clients, and contractors to support project delivery.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
• 7–10 years of professional engineering experience.
• Preferred experience with industrial hazardous waste (IHW) and oil & gas waste.
• Strong project management skills.
• Experience in waste permitting, construction design, CQA, groundwater monitoring, and operations support.

Skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
• Experience using HEC‑RAS or other computer‑modeling software.
• Ambition to learn and apply new skills.
