About the role

The Soldering Technician I is responsible for the soldering of parts onto flexible laminations, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, rework, and repairs of electrical components using a variety of hand tools and equipment according to required specifications for defined manufacturing processes. This includes responsibility for the J-STD 001 training and in-house certification of operators.

Responsibilities

  • Reads, interprets, and follows detailed work instructions, drawings, processes and established procedures to solder parts according to quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Troubleshoots with an O-scope, multi-meter and data acquisition devices.
  • Prepares and cleans equipment for subsequent use.
  • Responsible for the J-STD 001 training and in-house certification of operators.
  • Continues soldering training and attends certification programs to ensure job knowledge and skills set remain up-to-date and certification remains current.
  • Occasionally supports engineering in testing and troubleshooting new designs.
  • Performs visual inspection on incoming products for contamination and defects and validation against Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Uses a variety of composite materials, including polyimides, sealants, fiberglass, metals, and related materials while adhering to procedures.
  • Performs in-process and final inspection to ensure compliance with specifications, utilizing precision measuring tools.
  • Removes defective materials and reports any part, tooling, or equipment issues to supervision promptly.
  • Documents inspection results, prepares rejection tags, and reports all nonconformances to Production Supervisor.
  • Participates in continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and operational efficiency, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Cross-trains and rotates across multiple workstations to support production needs and efficiency.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with Supervisors, Production Leads, and peers to support department goals.
  • Able to train and support other Technicians.
  • Follows all safety standards and procedures, including PPE requirements for a clean room environment.
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work area using safety standards and expectations.

Requirements

  • Ability to deal with and solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to interpret written materials such as technical reports, manuals, layup instructions, work instructions, and safety warnings.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate documentation, including nonconformance reports, technical reports, and shift hand-offs.
  • Ability to sort, inspect, and compare products for accuracy and quality.
  • Strong attention to detail and have accountability of materials.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Inspection of parts and finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Ability to safely handle hazardous material and following procedures.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiently in Microsoft Suite, data entry and document uploads.
  • Previous blueprint reading and interpretation experience.
  • Ability to use a variety of soldering, measuring equipment and hand tools, including calipers, micrometers, rulers, tape measurers, scissors, wrenches, screwdrivers, and knives.
  • Previous soldering skills required for through-hole and SMT (Surface Mount Technology) components.
  • Experience operating spot-welding equipment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Degree or General Education Degree; or three (3) to five (5) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • J-STD-001 Certificate with an “S” addendum (Space).
  • Three (3) + years of manufacturing assembly experience.
  • Three (3) + years of hand soldering experience.
  • Blueprint reading certificate desired.
