About the role

Solar Technician at Spark Power, a trusted partner in energy in North America, is seeking a Solar Technician to join the team in the Albany, New York Regional area. The position involves performing all duties of a Renewable Energy Technician, managing sites, providing safety training, and participating in weekend on-call work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties of a Renewable Energy Technician in an exemplary fashion
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner with internal team members and customers
  • Provide up-to-date information to Asset Managers regarding their sites
  • Maintain facility buildings in a well-kept and organized manner
  • Manage site inventory and procurement
  • Provide site safety training, orientation, and tours for clients where necessary
  • Lead/assist in Preventive Maintenance Programs (PMs), maintaining schedules and keeping up to date on PM status
  • Manage jobs, material procurement, and third-party contractors
  • Participate in weekend on-call and various hours of work resulting in overtime throughout peak production season
  • Complete general reporting and documentation of all work performed daily, provide detailed summaries of large jobs to Asset Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Travel regionally between job sites as needed

Requirements

  • Ownership/accountability of your sites
  • Keep the sites looking clean and tidy – buildings, vegetation, fences, gates, roads, etc.
  • Able to tour around owners/guests as necessary and able to speak to any ongoing issues or concerns
  • Detailed understanding of the technical aspects:
    • Energization/de-energization procedures
    • Lock-out, tag out plans
    • Operations of site-specific PLCs and controls
    • Understanding and access to latest drawings
  • Support troubleshooting on all equipment and push to maximize performance/production
  • Management of all preventive maintenance activities
  • Bi-weekly / monthly inspections to be completed by you such that you can ensure small jobs are cleaned up over time / can pick up where you left off
  • Involvement in all major PMs i.e. inverters, combiners, helio, substation shutdowns
  • Awareness of all correctives (you may not always be available to fix everything, but you should request to be brought up to speed and have access to the report)

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and safety protocols
  • Experience with site management and inventory control

  • Technical proficiency in solar panel installation and maintenance
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices
