Solar Site Team Leader (Rutherford Solar)

This position provides leadership and support for SPC Solar Operations Technicians at the Rutherford and Granville solar sites, ensuring safe, compliant, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the SPC Solar Fleet.

About the role

The Site Team Leader is accountable for safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance; team development and technical direction; performance management; resource and work-priority management; assisting in O&M and Capital budget development and management; solar maintenance strategy and PMs; and coordination of contracts and contractors.

This role covers two facilities:

• Rutherford Solar: 489-acre site in Rutherford County, NC, producing approximately 75 megawatts.
• Granville Solar Facility: 40-acre, 2.5-megawatt facility in Granville County, NC.

Responsibilities

• Maintain familiarity with all maintenance activities and ongoing issues at the facilities.
• Perform periodic walk-downs and visual inspections of each site in coordination with Solar Technicians; provide backup and support for tasks.
• Manage overall compliance of the solar sites, including safety, environmental, financial, and contract/contractor management.
• Provide leadership and direction to ensure a safe and compliant Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) program.
• Assist in developing and managing Capital and O&M budgets to meet year-end projections; write and approve purchase requisitions and invoices.
• Provide project management leadership and support as required.
• Work with SPC M&D ROC to monitor operational activities and alarms for solar sites.
• Administer workflow process in Maximo; review CRs daily and ensure work orders are prioritized, planned, executed, and closed out.
• Perform Asset Management for all solar sites, including developing and maintaining a maintenance strategy with optimized PMs.
• Work with vendors and contractors to ensure proper maintenance and operation of the solar facilities.
• Develop and implement an inventory management process for solar sites.
• Collaborate with other departments (New Generation, Renewables, etc.) on new site and project development activities.
• Provide experience with contractor maintenance and management.
• Assist plant technicians with equipment troubleshooting and/or maintenance during emergencies or for availability.
• Manage responsibilities across multiple sites and crews in the specified region.
• Represent Southern Power in Renewable Operations Review Board (ORB) meetings and other applicable ORBs.

Requirements

• BS or Associate degree in Electrical/Electronics is a plus.
• Supervisory experience, including performance management, is preferred.
• Three years of work experience in generating plant maintenance or operations required.
• Experience with asset management (System Ownership) within a generating plant or equivalent.
• Project management experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of Maximo preferred.
• Knowledge of site Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to maximize profit through production and maintenance planning.
• Computer skills required to understand and communicate with digital-based devices.
• Advanced knowledge of AC and DC electrical circuits.
• Understanding of maintenance strategy, budgeting, cost reporting, and reliability reporting.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all working and management levels.
• Competency with current Windows operating system and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be available for extended work hours, including nights and weekends.
• Solar plant experience (or similar process) with emphasis on plant controls, communication networks, and SCADA is preferred.
• Working knowledge of switchyards and related equipment required.
• Frequent travel across multiple sites and states, with the potential for little to no notice; travel may be up to 25% at times.
