Solar Field Technician - Fresno

About the role
As a Solar Field Technician at QE Solar, you are responsible for providing ongoing field services support to multiple solar, battery storage (BESS), or other renewable energy systems to optimize equipment performance, troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues, support emergency repairs, and ensure O&M compliance. You will assist with routine site inspections, maintenance projects, equipment and system testing, and other project compliance, troubleshooting, or restoration matters. Field Service Technicians regularly participate in field support, training, and project safety orientations to develop skills in PV array, inverter, medium voltage, BESS, and other solar services. Operations Leads, Solar Engineers, and management will provide coaching, training, and qualification for field operations.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair system failures at existing solar sites, identifying and correcting potential issues that may impact site performance.
- Assist and support field teams with real-time solutions to site operations issues.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on solar, BESS, and related project equipment.
- Support field teams and clients with warranty matters regarding equipment and systems for use or replacement.
- Install, remove, troubleshoot, and maintain solar, BESS, and related electrical equipment.
- Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to company and client safety protocols, procedures, and regulations (e.g., lock-out/tag-out compliance, JHA completion, LDL testing).
- Prepare service tickets and reports for site visits, emergency repairs, equipment modifications, and improvement investigations.
- Provide timely and complete written and oral communication reports.
- Communicate with technical leads, project managers, and third-party subcontractors to ensure timely resolution of activities and address site safety and compliance concerns.
- Support recommended performance improvements and other responsibilities as directed by management.
Requirements
- High School or Technical School Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Veterans or military-experienced candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- 0-2+ years of specialist, technical experience with solar projects, BESS, or other renewable systems.
- Experience with data acquisition systems.
Qualifications
- Experience working with 600v-1500v systems.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and current NFPA-70e requirements.
- Proficiency with technology and computing programs/platforms.
- C&I/Utility Scale solar work experience.
- Experience with operations of solar sites and/or project maintenance and compliance.
Skills
- Inverter and/or BESS manufacturers’ certifications (e.g., SunGrow, Power Electronics, Solectria, BYD) a plus.
- Thermography certifications (Level 1).
- IT/networking skills: Familiarity with RS485, Modbus, TCP/IP, etc.
- NABCEP PV Installer Certification.
- Minimum OSHA 10/30 Certification.
- Completion of NFPA 70E courses.
- CPR/First Aid.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 25/50/80 pounds regularly.
- Ability to move safely over uneven terrain.
- Ability to sit or drive for prolonged periods.
- Ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in extreme weather.
Travel Requirements
Extensive travel regionally and occasionally nationally to meet client field operation needs.

Pay
The pay range for this role is $25 - $35 USD per hour (Fresno, CA).
