Responsibilities
- Lead the design and engineering of complex commercial and/or utility-scale PV systems.
- Develop and review system layouts, electrical single-line diagrams, grounding plans, and equipment specifications.
- Perform detailed electrical calculations, system modeling, and performance optimization analyses.
- Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and regulations (NEC, local AHJs, utility requirements).
- Coordinate with project electrical engineer for the establishment of utility interconnection agreements.
- Serve as the technical authority for resolving design challenges and constructability issues.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to create bid document drawing sets to obtain quotes for installation of solar PV systems.
- Work with vendors to obtain quotes for modules, inverters, and racking systems that are included in design.
- Identify and mitigate risks and issues that may impact project success.
- Contribute to the evaluation of the technical and financial feasibility of solar projects, taking into account factors such as site conditions, equipment specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including contractors and other engineers, to ensure the successful integration of solar PV systems into building designs and infrastructure projects.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging solar technologies, incorporating this knowledge into the design and development of cutting-edge solar solutions.
- Contribute to the organization’s strategic planning and decision-making related to solar engineering initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably with a focus on solar, renewable energy, or electrical engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in solar engineering, with a proven track record of successful solar PV system design and implementation.
- Strong knowledge of solar energy modeling software, such as PVsyst, Solesca, Helioscope, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with solar PV equipment, including solar modules, inverters, and mounting systems, as well as industry standards and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Passion for sustainability and a desire to make a positive impact on the environment.
- NABCEP certification preferred.
- PE registration or the ability to become registered a plus.
