Solar & BESS Technician II - Bellefield Solar + Storage Project
About the role
AES is seeking an experienced Solar Technician II to join our Operations team. Based in Mojave, CA, this role plays a crucial part in operating and maintaining our utility-scale solar energy plants in Southern California.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for assigned O&M activities associated with solar PV sites and substations.
- Performs corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for qualified equipment.
- Prepares and implements switching and clearance orders.
- Operates electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
- Participates in training as required.
- Writes/assists with Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions, and other documents as assigned.
- Ensures work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.
Requirements
- Experience with electrical systems and safety principles.
- Basic experience with electrical and mechanical fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with solar and battery energy storage systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, operate, and maintain solar and BESS equipment.
- Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of experience as a Solar technician or BESS technician.
- Or, 5+ years of experience in power generation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals.
- Basic experience with electrical and mechanical fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with solar and battery energy storage systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, operate, and maintain solar and BESS equipment.
- Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
Skills

- Familiarity with SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.

Pay
The expected salary range for this position is between $35.00 and $42.07 per hour at commencement of employment. The total compensation package includes an annual bonus.
Schedule
Working outside in a normal solar power plant and/or office environment, including high/low ambient temperatures and high/low humidity areas, and possibly working at heights. Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment. May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals. Occasional travel to sites outside the typical area may be required.
