Software Test Automation Engineer
About the role
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. As a Senior Software Test Automation Engineer, you will collaborate with innovative 3Mers around the world, designing, coding, and maintaining automated tests for server-side software components, APIs, services, and integrations.
Responsibilities
- Design, code, and maintain automated tests for server-side software components, APIs, services, and integrations.
- Develop and enhance reusable automation frameworks, test utilities, mock services, and validation tools.
- Apply security best practices, including encryption and secure communications, across system design and implementation.
- Troubleshoot and optimize software performance, reliability, and interoperability across hardware and software interfaces.
- Identify, document, troubleshoot, and track software defects in collaboration with development teams.
- Provide technical leadership on a cross-functional team and contribute to engineering best practices appropriate for a mid-senior level role.
- Comply with corporate policies, procedures, and security standards while performing assigned duties.
- Contribute to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
- Seven (7) years of software development experience including coding automated tests for server-side or backend software systems in a private, public, government, or military environment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
- Experience testing APIs, services, databases, and distributed software systems.
- Working knowledge of industrial automation protocols such as CIP, OPC-UA, and MQTT.
- Experience with C/C++ and embedded applications.
- Understanding of low-latency, time-critical network communications over Wi-Fi.
- Ability to work effectively across a broad technology stack and coordinate with external development resources.
- Proficiency with AI software development tools.
Schedule
This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
Travel may include up to 10% domestic or international.
Relocation may be authorized.
Pay
The expected compensation range for this position is $145,676 - $178,049, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. The specific compensation offered may vary based on factors including relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and experience.
