About the role
The System Safety team at RTX is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our products, particularly for our warfighters. This role involves participating in the Software System Safety Program, executing safety strategies, analyzing software code, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the execution of the Software System Safety Program.
- Perform MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses involving management, analysis, evaluation, and verification.
- Execute the safety strategy for the program to meet all milestones with system safety and HSI features integrated into the product.
- Analyze engineering software in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, and other relevant standards.
- Work with software development teams to review and analyze software code.
- Assist with software analyses and interfacing with various stakeholders, including customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through deployment to gain concurrence with software builds.
- Assist with the preparation of Safety Assessment Reports, as well as other safety analyses and Safety Program Briefs.
- Assist with software safety technical reviews.
- Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a comprehensive understanding of product architecture and design.
- Engage the Lead System Safety Engineer and Portfolio Engineering Lead for guidance on technical execution, artifact review, and customer reviews.
- Support multi-IPT program meetings to ensure that system safety items are considered and to understand current program-wide issues.
- Ensure program leadership understands system safety requirements, hazards, and planned mitigations.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience with risk assessment concepts, such as those included in MIL-STD-882E.
- Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
- We prefer active/existing DoD clearance.
- Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to a System Safety program.
- Experience reviewing software code and requirements.
- Experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Experience interfacing with Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Hardware Engineering.
- Experience managing working groups.
