About the role
The System Safety / Human System Integration (HSI) Department at RTX ensures that all products incorporate safety and human factors into their design and execution, meeting all milestones and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Execute the safety strategy for the program to meet all its milestones with system safety/HSI features integrated into the product in compliance with contract and awarded funding.
- Schedule and integrate system safety tasks and activities into the program's Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
- Engage the Lead System Safety Engineer and Portfolio Engineering Lead for guidance on technical execution, artifact review, and attending customer reviews.
- Ensure program leadership understands system safety requirements, hazards, and planned mitigations.
- Meet internal and external commitments (deliveries).
- Own technical solutions and collaborate across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to realize the solution that makes the overall product development and test successful.
- Analyze engineering software and/or firmware in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52, and other relevant standards.
- Work with software development teams to review and analyze embedded software code.
- Participate in the execution of the Software System Safety Program.
- Interface with various stakeholders, including customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Aid in the preparation of Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for customer approval.
- Aid in software safety technical reviews.
- Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a comprehensive understanding of product architecture and design.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience with risk assessment concepts, such as those in MIL-STD 882E.
- Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required security clearance.
- Experience with test equipment & test equipment safety, in a laboratory setting.
- Experience performing MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400).
- Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
- Experience reviewing software code and requirements for safety considerations.
- Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines.
- Experience interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering.
- Experience managing Working Groups.
