About the role

Nationwide is seeking a Software Engineering Product Manager to lead the Internet of Things (IoT) and Telematics portfolio within P&C Data, Operations, Technology and Solutions (DOTS). The Software Engineering Product Manager provides product, platform, and delivery leadership for capabilities supporting connected-car, smart-home, usage-based insurance, and telematics data products across Personal and Commercial Lines. You will be accountable for keeping the platforms secure, resilient, and well run while advancing modernization, data quality, governance, and scalable product delivery aligned to P&C business strategy. This role requires strong data and engineering leadership, stakeholder management, and the ability to guide teams in a highly collaborative environment.

This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires in-office presence in our Columbus, Ohio office two days per week. Candidates must be based within a commutable distance to Columbus, Ohio. Work authorization: This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

Responsibilities

  • Own product and platform health, including reliability, security, controls, quality, lifecycle management, production support, and incident response.
  • Lead prioritization across new delivery, operational needs, technology debt, regulatory obligations, and customer value.
  • Manage dependencies, risks, trade-offs, delivery commitments, financials, capacity, and vendor relationships.
  • Promote modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, observability, secure delivery, and disciplined release management.
  • Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Partner with leaders to ensure a viable total cost of ownership and ongoing health and wellness of applications.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of application suite roadmaps through the evaluation of business needs, competitive landscape, technology currency, and information security considerations.
  • Manage risk mitigation controls and provide support for internal and external audits.
  • Support the engineering build of the application suite and non-technical efforts for the products.
  • Represent the voice of the customer, act in a forward-facing role to business partners as an active member of a portfolio management team in the advocacy of business case development, planning, financial management, and evaluation of the portfolio.
  • Hire and develop talent, provide consistent coaching and feedback.
  • Ensure delivery availability and resiliency following established operating mechanisms and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate studies in management information systems, engineering, math, computer science, or comparable experience and education preferred.
  • Six years of experience in application suite management with four years or more leading numerous teams across multiple technologies.
  • Proven experience in empowering and building an engaged team.
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of the systems development life cycle and modern methodologies, practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Solid understanding of concepts and techniques in project delivery, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to develop and implement roadmap strategies.
  • Proven decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Coaching and career development of team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships.
  • Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.

Pay

The national salary range for Manager, Software Engineering Product Manager: $118,000.00 - $222,000.00.

The expected starting salary range for Manager, Software Engineering Product Manager: $118,000.00 - $178,000.00.

Schedule

Hybrid schedule requiring in-office presence in Columbus, Ohio two days per week.
