Software Engineer - Systems 5 (contract)

About the role

The Ground Software Engineering team in El Segundo, CA is seeking multiple Software Systems Engineers to support the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Satellite Systems Software Engineering organization. The team develops software tools and services for high-performance satellite and ground systems serving US Government and commercial customers. Work is conducted in a rapid, agile CI/CD environment with automated testing, vulnerability scanning, and quality checks. Assignments may include Product Owner or Team Lead responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain requirements, architecture, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for high-performance Command and Control (C2) software solutions.
• Lead software development activities in a scaled agile DevSecOps environment.
• Support software development and integrate components into a fully functional system.
• Present progress demonstrations to customer representatives and program/IPT leadership.
• Perform day-to-day Product Owner/Technical Leadership, architecture, design, and direction of software products.
• Implement structured approaches to define and meet development, integration schedules, and cost baselines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and 18+ years of directly related work experience, or 22+ years of related, relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship required for eligibility to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
• 5+ years of experience with systems engineering or software development on space-based or ground-based systems.
• 3+ years of experience leading software development projects.
• 3+ years of experience with Java, C++, or Python.
• Experience with Flight Dynamics/Orbital Analysis, Satellite Management Systems, or Ground Control Management.

Preferred Skills

• Experience as a Product Owner or Technical Lead.
• Experience with database technologies (SQL/NoSQL), messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, ActiveMQ), and data streaming technologies (e.g., CCSDS).
• Familiarity with containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms.
• Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines in GitLab.
• Experience with formal acceptance testing (e.g., FQT, FAT, SAT).
• Active TS/SCI or DoD Top Secret clearance.

Pay

$104 – $109 USD hourly.
