About the Role

NVIDIA is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join its Planning and Control team, focusing on metrics and evaluation for autonomous vehicle systems. This role will enable rapid development, debugging, testing, and evaluation of planner and controller algorithms by developing novel evaluation methodologies, metrics, and data-driven evaluation products. You will work across on-road driving analysis, large-scale simulation, models, metrics, and dashboards while collaborating with machine learning engineers, infrastructure engineers, roboticists, and the Planning & Control team. The role offers an opportunity to solve open-ended technical problems requiring creativity, experimentation, and strong engineering judgment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and develop metrics for debugging, testing, and evaluating autonomous vehicle software.
  • Develop evaluation methodologies that support rapid planner and controller algorithm development.
  • Build data-driven evaluation products combining on-road driving analysis, large-scale simulation, models, metrics, and dashboards.
  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers, infrastructure engineers, and roboticists to develop solutions to open-ended technical challenges.
  • Partner with the Planning & Control team to develop and drive software testing strategies.
  • Analyze evaluation results to support autonomous vehicle software development and improvement.
  • Contribute to testing and evaluation products from development through delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, computer science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data science, and/or experiment design.
  • Highly proficient in Python.
  • Strong experience with Python libraries including Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and Matplotlib.
  • Familiarity with Git.
  • Experience working in Linux/Ubuntu or another Unix-based environment.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to quickly learn new technical domains.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of developing and shipping software testing and evaluation products.
  • Experience developing onboard planning algorithms and metrics for autonomous vehicle or robotics systems.
  • Experience evaluating precision and recall of performance metrics.
  • Familiarity with C++.
  • Experience working in a large monorepo environment.
  • Experience with Bazel.
  • Knowledge of vehicle simulation.
  • Knowledge of path planning and vehicle control.
  • Familiarity with Drive-by-Wire systems.
  • Prior experience working with autonomous vehicles.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Currency: USD
  • Base Salary: $148,000–$356,500 per year
  • Actual base salary is determined by location, experience, and compensation of employees in similar positions
