About the role
As a Software Engineer Principal (JAVA/Spring Boot) within PNC's Retail Tech Core Debit Product organization, you will provide technical leadership and architectural direction across critical software initiatives. You will design scalable systems, mentor engineering teams, and drive best practices that align technology solutions with business strategy. This position requires deep technical expertise, strong influence without authority, and a proven ability to solve complex, cross-domain problems.
Responsibilities
- Align business strategy with software solutions.
- Propose, design, and code software solutions to address complex business needs.
- Oversee technical and procedural documentation.
- Lead complex problem-solving efforts.
- Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues and solution development.
- Apply modern principles, methodologies, and tools to advance business initiatives and capabilities.
PNC employees are expected to be customer-focused, knowledgeable of practices that align customer needs, and capable of creating customized solutions. They must also assess and manage risks to ensure adherence to PNC’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems.
- Expertise in core programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or Go.
- Strong knowledge of system architecture, APIs, databases, and data modeling.
- Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle and modern engineering practices.
PNC is an in-office company. Sponsorship for employment visas or participation in STEM OPT is not available for this position.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a university/college degree with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job-specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.
- Preferred skills: Application Development, Business Management, Customer Solutions, Design, Group Problem Solving, Process Improvements, Release Management, Software Solutions, User Experience (UX) Design.
- Competencies: Application Design, Architecture, Packaged Application Integration, Product and Vendor Evaluation, Software Process Improvement (SPI), System Development Life Cycle, Technical Troubleshooting.
Pay
Base Salary: $106,000.00 – $165,600.00. Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data, and individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive-eligible, with payment based on company, business, and/or individual performance.
