Software Engineer, Price Experience

Rover.com · Greater Seattle Area · 1 mo ago
Hybrid$109k–$136k/yrFull-time

About the Role

Rover connects pet parents with trusted pet care across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. We're a values-driven, fast-growing tech company investing in AI as a business accelerator. This is a hybrid position based in our Downtown Seattle Office, requiring in-office work two days per week on Mondays and Thursdays.

About the Team

The Price Experience team ensures care providers have tools to price with confidence and grow their businesses, while pet parents find competitively priced pet care options. We're a cross-functional team of five full-stack engineers based in Seattle, working closely with product, design, and data science. We share ownership of decisions and outcomes, care deeply about clean code and thoughtful collaboration, and enjoy team activities from lunches and offsites to coffee chats.

What You'll Do

  • Navigate ambiguity with autonomy, turning loose requirements into actionable plans with support from senior teammates
  • Use AI tools to move efficiently through well-defined work so you can focus on higher-judgment problems
  • Take ownership of projects end-to-end, from understanding requirements through shipping and monitoring performance in production
  • Build pet parent- and provider-facing features that make pricing clear, fair, and easy to act on
  • Diagnose issues within your technical stack and work productively across most of the team's domain
  • Apply the team's monitoring practices to catch and respond to issues in production
  • Contribute to code quality through code reviews, feedback in architectural discussions, and writing clear, well-tested code
  • Proactively communicate status, blockers, and priorities
  • Document your work and help keep team documentation accurate
  • Participate in and help improve the team's established processes
  • Exhibit Rover's core values and help foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team environment

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Backend engineering experience, ideally in Python and Django (other major backend languages welcome)
  • Working knowledge of building web applications, ideally with React or a similar modern frontend framework
  • Familiarity with relational databases and basic schema design
  • An observability mindset: building comfort instrumenting services with structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting
  • Solid testing habits: writing automated tests (unit, integration) as a core part of shipping
  • AI-augmented engineering: actively use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Copilot, or similar) for code generation, debugging, refactoring, code review, and exploring unfamiliar codebases; understand how to write effective prompts, validate AI output critically, and integrate these tools into a professional workflow

Nice to Have

  • Experience with distributed systems patterns: async task queues (Celery, RabbitMQ or similar), caching layers (Memcached, Redis), and event-driven architectures
  • Experience with REST API design at scale (Django REST Framework or equivalent)
  • Exposure to continuous deployment pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Experience pushing the boundaries of AI-assisted development, building custom workflows, automating repetitive tasks, or using AI tools beyond basic code completion

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • 401k match
  • Long-term incentive plan with a company performance-based cash payout
  • Flexible PTO
  • Competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Commuter benefits
  • Bring your dog to work (and unlimited puppy time)
  • Pet benefits, including $1000 toward adopting your first dog or cat
  • Stocked fridges, coffee, soda, and lots of treats (for humans and dogs)
  • Free catered lunches monthly
  • Regular team activities performed in-person and virtually

Pay

In the greater Seattle area, the first-year salary range is $108,694-$136,046. Rover also offers benefits to full-time employees. The cash compensation offered will be dependent on the candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and abilities as demonstrated in the interview and hiring process.
