Software Engineer - Payments

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to develop secure, scalable payment services for a large, multichannel business. This hands-on backend engineering role will support transactions across in-store POS, e-commerce, mobile, kiosk, and call center environments. You’ll work primarily with C# and .NET while integrating payment processors, gateways, financial institutions, and other third-party platforms. The ideal candidate has payments experience or a strong background in high-volume transactional systems and wants to expand further into enterprise payment technology.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Build and enhance payment services and REST APIs using C# and .NET/.NET Core
• Develop integrations with processors, gateways, acquiring banks, digital wallets, and external providers
• Support authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, chargebacks, and transaction routing
• Improve retry logic, exception handling, failover, observability, and transaction success rates
• Troubleshoot production issues across applications, APIs, and third-party systems
• Participate in solution design, code reviews, incident response, and root-cause analysis
• Partner with Product, Architecture, and engineering teams to deliver reliable payment capabilities
• Write secure, maintainable, well-tested code for business-critical systems

Requirements

• Roughly five to ten years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong hands-on development experience with C# and .NET/.NET Core
• Experience building REST APIs and integrating third-party platforms
• Background with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or another relational database
• Experience troubleshooting complex production or transaction-processing systems
• Knowledge of secure development practices and sensitive-data protection
• Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills

Skills

• Experience with payments, fintech, banking, retail commerce, POS, or another transaction-intensive environment is highly valued
• Familiarity with PCI-DSS, EMV, tokenization, digital wallets, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, cloud platforms, or distributed systems is beneficial but not required
