Software Engineer - Navy Training Software - Philadelphia, PA

About the role
Noblis MSD supports the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCPD), and their missions to enable research, development, test and evaluation, acquisition, engineering, systems integration, in-service and fleet engineering with cybersecurity, comprehensive logistics, and life-cycle savings. We are seeking a Software Engineer to support the development, maintenance, and delivery of Machinery Control System (MCS) Training software for DDG-51 Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers.
The selected candidate will interface with U.S. Navy civilian software and systems engineers, support contractors, U.S. Navy ships force, OEMs, and engineering management. The role contributes to all aspects of the software life cycle including requirements definition, software development, documentation, testing, deployment, technical support, and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of the DDG-51 Machinery Control System (MCS) Training Software
- Design, develop, test, install, and maintain MCS Training software and support software products
- Work with MATLAB, Simulink, Simulink Coder (Real-Time Workshop), Microsoft Visual Studio, and Git version control
- Identify and document software and system related problems
- Resolve software problems through debugging, research, and investigation
- Provide distance and onsite support for software problems
- Prepare and maintain new and/or existing software requirements
- Write, review, and maintain technical documentation such as user manuals, product specifications, and training materials
- Participate in special projects as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s level Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Engineering degrees preferred; others will be considered based on experience)
- Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to achieve DoD Secret clearance
- US citizenship is required
- Must have a valid US passport or ability to obtain one upon position acceptance
- Ability to travel 10%
Physical Requirements
Employees working in naval industrial environments, whether shipboard or pierside, must meet certain physical requirements to safely perform essential job functions:
- Capable of standing and walking for extended periods, often on uneven, wet, or slippery surfaces
- Able to climb vertical ladders, stairs, and steep inclines while carrying tools or equipment
- Work in confined spaces with limited ventilation and restricted movement, including crawling through narrow passageways and working in overhead or below-deck areas
- Possess sufficient manual dexterity and grip strength to operate hand and power tools, manipulate controls, and handle materials weighing up to fifty pounds on a regular basis, with occasional lifting of heavier objects with assistance
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead repeatedly throughout the workday
- Adequate vision to read technical manuals, identify color-coded systems, and detect safety hazards
- Hearing capability sufficient to perceive warning signals, alarms, and verbal communications in noisy environments, with or without hearing protection
- Work in varying environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, high humidity, direct sunlight, and exposure to weather elements
- Stamina to work extended shifts and balance/coordination to maintain stability on moving vessels
- Capable of responding quickly to emergency situations, including evacuating confined spaces and moving to emergency stations

Qualifications
- Experience developing and maintaining functional models using Simulink
- Experience using MATLAB, Simulink, and Simulink Coder (Real-Time Workshop) to generate C/C++ source code
- Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio to develop, compile, and debug source code in C++
- Experience designing, developing, testing, and installing software and supporting software products
- Experience writing, reviewing, and maintaining technical documentation such as software requirements, user manuals, product specifications, and training materials
- Basic knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting networked, IP-based systems both onsite and via distance support
Pay
USD $65,200.00 - USD $101,950.00 per year
