About the role
This opportunity resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems comprises cyber and mission IT; electronic warfare; and C5ISR systems.
HII works within our nation’s intelligence and cyber operations communities to defend our interests in cyberspace and anticipate emerging threats. Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of our high-performance C++ application, writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code for critical components.
- Guide the team's C++ architectural decisions, ensuring scalability, robustness, and adherence to modern C++ standards (e.g., C++17/20).
- Mentor a team of software engineers through hands-on guidance, rigorous code reviews, and the promotion of best practices in software development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, timelines, and technical deliverables.
- Profile, debug, and resolve complex technical challenges in a multi-threaded, performance-sensitive environment.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations for software team members.
- Champion continuous improvement in development workflows, tools, and team culture
Requirements
- 4 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 2 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years relevant progressive experience.
- Expert-level proficiency in modern C++ (C++14 or newer), with a deep understanding of the C++ standard library, object-oriented design, and memory management.
- Demonstrated experience designing and developing complex, multi-threaded, or performance-critical software systems in C++.
- 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, including code reviews, architectural guidance, and mentorship.
- Working knowledge of Python or JavaScript for scripting and tooling.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and development methodologies.
- Clearance: Minimum Secret clearance is required to start.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance with enhanced security checks.
Qualifications
- Experience with performance profiling and optimization tools.
- Experience with CUDA
- Experience with high-performance libraries.
- Familiarity with C++ build systems like CMake.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Deep understanding of Linux development environments.
