About the role

Northstrat is seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer to join our team. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing complex software capabilities for computer-based systems, working closely with other engineers to create solutions that meet client needs. The position offers the opportunity to work with modern tools and technologies and to stay updated with the latest developments in software development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain complex software capabilities using Java frameworks and libraries (e.g. Spring, Guava)
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers to design and implement software solutions
  • Keep up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in software development
  • Collaborate in a fast-paced, small business environment with a talented team
  • Transition seamlessly between hands-on execution and team guidance, treating mentorship and team leadership as integral parts of senior-level impact
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A current U.S. Government Security Clearance is desired but not required; U.S. Citizenship required
  • At least 9 years' experience in Software Engineering, Modern Java Frameworks and Libraries (e.g. Spring, Guava)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 7 years relevant experience with a Master’s degree in a related field; or 13 years relevant experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience building and maintaining Kubernetes deployments using tools like Helm and Flux
  • Strong Java software development experience
  • Experience in designing enterprise APIs and RESTful web services
  • Experience in Microservices architecture
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and work well both independently and in a team setting
  • Experience with the Linux operating system and configuration management tools (e.g. Git, Nexus, Maven)
  • Experience with agile software lifecycle
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies (AWS, Azure) is preferred
  • Experience in writing custom Kubernetes tooling like operators and custom CRDs is preferred
  • Experience with programming languages such as Go and Python is preferred
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitLab CI pipelines is preferred
  • Experience in distributed databases, NoSQL databases, and full-text search engines (e.g. Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Solr) is preferred
  • Scripting experience is a plus
  • Prior experience or familiarity with our Big Data Platform is a plus
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and use of standard software development tool suites (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, GitHub Enterprise, etc.) is preferred

Pay Range

Final salary is influenced by factors such as geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. Details on pay range can be found in the Benefits section.

Schedule

The role requires an average of 8 hours per weekday over the course of a month, with the flexibility to adjust based on project requirements and personal circumstances. Flexibility is essential to adapt to schedule changes as needed.
