Software Engineer Intern (Tech and Product) - 2027 Summer

About the team

The Tech and Product team of TikTok USDS is missioned to empower TikTok US users to have a great user experience with strong data security and privacy protections, focusing on compliance, reliability, business and product support, and efficiency improvement. As part of this team, you will design, build, and maintain highly scalable, reliable, and secure software systems. You will work on core backend infrastructure, high-throughput microservices, and specialized compliance pipelines that power product features (such as Ads, Payment, Tech Infra, Emerging products, and E-Commerce) while meeting strict data security and privacy standards for US users.

Our internship program offers students hands-on experience, industry exposure, and opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges while building a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. Interns will gain practical experience, explore potential career paths, and participate in social events, learning programs, and development workshops alongside industry professionals.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy production-grade backend microservices and distributed systems.
• Continuously optimize system performance, latency, memory utilization, and resource efficiency.
• Build robust monitoring, logging, and fault-tolerant mechanisms to ensure high system availability.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Able to commit to a 12-week internship during Summer 2027.
• Strong coding skills in at least one modern language: Go, C++, Java, or Python.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Prior technical internship experience in top tech companies, or achievements in competitive programming.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $45.
