Software Engineer Intern (Emerging Product) - 2027 Summer

We’re the Emerging Product Engineering Team, TikTok USDS JV’s incubator for new ventures in the US market. We own the end-to-end success of a diverse portfolio of applications, operating with a “0→1” mindset that values agility, rapid iteration, and creative problem-solving.

Our internship program gives students hands-on experience, industry exposure, and the chance to tackle real-world challenges while building a foundation for personal and professional growth. Interns participate in social events, learning programs, and development workshops alongside industry professionals.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate innovative big-data computing frameworks and storage systems to power large-scale platform services.
• Design and optimize high-concurrency distributed systems to maintain stability during peak global traffic.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders on large-scale engineering initiatives.
• Drive technical innovation by integrating new ideas and emerging technologies into the core platform.
• Enhance system efficiency and scalability to support the rapid growth of the global payment ecosystem.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Able to commit to a 12-week internship during Summer 2027.
• Experience in programming (C, C++, Java, or Golang).
• Effective communication skills and a sense of ownership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in AI coding.
• Strong learning ability, clear communication, and a collaborative mindset.

Established under the Executive Order signed on September 25, 2025, the Joint Venture operates a comprehensive data-privacy and cybersecurity program to protect national security and secure U.S. user data, apps, and algorithms. We also oversee trust and safety policies and moderation for the U.S. content ecosystem.

USDS maintains an on-site presence across teams to enable faster decision-making, team development, and integrated execution. As a result, the company is shifting to a fully in-person schedule of up to five days a week.
