Software Engineer Intern

About the role

Software Engineer Intern (Summer 2027) working with Toyota Automated Logistics’ R&D team in Indianapolis, IN. The intern will engage in research, innovation, design, and prototype development for autonomous vehicle and robotic solutions in the material‑handling industry, collaborating in an Agile environment alongside a dedicated mentor.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside a dedicated mentor on intern projects.
• Develop and test software for autonomous vehicles and robots.
• Participate in design reviews and code reviews.
• Assist in testing of live autonomous vehicles and robots.
• Engage in Agile development processes to plan sprints and team workloads.
• Follow GitFlow processes for robust version control.

Travel Requirements

Up to 5 % overnight travel (expenses paid) for training purposes.

Qualifications

• Eligibility to work in the USA long term without sponsorship.
• Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Experience with Git version control.
• Comfortable developing in a Linux (Ubuntu) environment.
• Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System) – a plus.
• Experience with hardware such as microcontrollers, motor control, sensors – a plus.
• Commitment to follow information security policies, protect confidential data, complete required training, and report security incidents.
