Software Engineer II – Training System Software (Onsite)
Location: Sterling, VA (Onsite) – U.S. citizenship required due to security clearance requirements. Active and transferable U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.

Collins Aerospace, a leader in intelligent aerospace and defense solutions, is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Strategic Defense Solutions (SDS) team in Sterling, VA. Our teams develop highly realistic simulators and training systems for military and commercial customers, ranging from desktop training to high-fidelity weapon system and full-flight training systems with visual motion and interoperability.
In this role, you will design, implement, and test multi-threaded software applications and user interfaces in a fast-paced, modern Agile development environment. You will collaborate closely with systems, hardware, and test teams to build advanced, mission-focused capabilities. Most work is conducted in a classified lab environment, requiring daily onsite presence.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, integrate, and test software on cross-functional Agile teams to deliver solutions within budget, scope, and schedule constraints.
- Perform software debugging and work independently with general supervision.
- Provide engineering estimates for your own work and contribute to bidding and proposal activities.
- Contribute to software and systems engineering requirements capture and analysis.
- Travel to domestic and international customer sites to support training events and product installations.
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
- Active and transferable U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance required prior to start date.
- Working knowledge of C/C++.
Preferred Qualifications
- Good working knowledge of the Windows operating system.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps and Agile development methodologies.
- Experience with C#, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), and .NET technologies.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Perl, etc.).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with Visual Studio and Eclipse.
- Usage of source code control tools (SVN, GIT, ClearCase, etc.).
- Usage of ALM tools (JIRA, Confluence, Crucible, Bamboo).
- Active DoD Security Clearance (within 24 months).
- Agile software development experience.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $75,800 – $144,200 USD. The range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
