About the role

We are hiring a Software Engineer II to join the Cloud Engineering team. The Infrastructure Engineering organization develops services and tools to enable, support, and optimize software development processes and practices for Chewy engineers. In this role, you will develop new customer-facing features, enhance existing systems with automation, and improve observability of business applications that power the e-commerce platform. You will collaborate across the engineering organization to deliver self-service solutions that empower internal customers to move rapidly while building on Chewy’s enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Apply algorithms, data structures, and design patterns to build scalable and performant code
  • Architect a resilient system for a customer-facing web application from scratch
  • Partner with stakeholders and technology teams on how to best implement desired customer features and enhancements
  • Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
  • Collaborate with team members to drive automated solutions to standardize methodologies, workflows, reusable modules, and tooling
  • Contribute to team’s standard processes for logging, testing, instrumentation, metrics, monitors, alerts, practices, and processes
  • Conduct design and code reviews and raise the bar on engineering rigor and standards
  • Participate in setting guidelines for evolving development practices and mentor junior engineers
  • Actively participate in scrum ceremonies such as grooming, planning, demos, and retrospectives
  • Participate in on-call rotations, troubleshoot production issues, and improve operational excellence

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of Java programming experience
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS cloud platforms
  • 3+ years of programming experience with frontend technologies like React, TypeScript, NodeJS
  • Ability to think independently and break down product requirements into well-defined tasks
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure development efforts align with stakeholder needs
  • Experience monitoring production environments, troubleshooting, triaging, and addressing production issues
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins or similar tools
  • Experience with IaC (Terraform or similar)
  • Experience designing, building, and deploying scalable, highly available systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in e-commerce
  • Experience in Python
  • Experience with modern tools and environments (e.g., version control systems, bug/issue tracking tools)
