Software Engineer II - Integrated Services

About the role

At Compass, you will join the Compass Integrated Services (CIS) engineering team, which drives the next phase of growth and platform evolution. We empower agents and their clients to seamlessly manage the entire transaction journey by offering a complete suite of integrated homeownership services—including Title & Escrow, Home Warranty, Mortgage, and Insurance—across a broad national footprint. By building a standardized, "one-click" workflow, you will help create a centralized technological ecosystem that enhances agent efficiency, deepens client loyalty, and increases per-transaction profitability.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain robust backend microservices and APIs that power One-Click Title & Escrow, Insurance, Mortgage, and Home Warranty workflows.
• Contribute to frontend development using modern frameworks like React to ensure seamless full-stack feature delivery.
• Deliver small to mid-sized components independently and collaborate with senior engineers on complex technical designs, ensuring code is secure, stable, and testable.
• Enhance operational excellence by improving system monitoring and participating in team on-call rotations to ensure reliability.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code with minimal defects and create comprehensive tests to prevent regressions.
• Become a subject matter expert on specific internal components or tools, mentoring peers and incoming interns.
• Actively participate in code reviews, team planning, and design discussions, providing constructive feedback and learning the broader business context.

Requirements

• 2-4 years of software engineering experience developing well-tested, high-performance applications.
• Strong backend engineering skills with proficiency in languages such as Go, Node.js, Python, or Java.
• Practical experience with modern frontend technologies, ideally TypeScript and React, and a willingness to tackle full-stack challenges.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and implementation trade-offs.
• Experience building and consuming APIs (gRPC or REST) and working within microservice architectures.
• Familiarity with AWS/cloud technologies, event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka), and modern CI/CD tooling is a plus.
• Dedication to software testing best practices (e.g., Jest, Cypress, or equivalent backend testing frameworks).
• Collaborative mindset with a track record of independent execution on straightforward technical problems and eagerness to seek guidance when facing ambiguity.
• Practical experience or strong interest in using AI-assisted development tools (like ClaudeCode or GitHub Copilot).
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $126,990–$141,100. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location, and the minimum wage for the position will always be met.
