Software Engineer II – Embedded Software
About the role
Join BAE Systems’ Countermeasure & Electromagnetic Attack Solutions (CEMA) business area where we provide next-generation threat detection and countermeasure solutions to enhance mission survivability. Our team leverages industry-leading EO/IR and RF technologies to advance multi-platform detection, tracking, and defeat of incoming threats to support aircraft, ground vehicle, and maritime survivability. We continue to build on more than 40 years of experience fielding EO/IR survivability solutions in complex rotary and fixed-wing aircraft and ground vehicle environments. Our engineers use advanced machine-learning-based algorithms to enable fast adaptation for new and emerging threats for airborne, land, and maritime products.
We pair new employees with a mentor to help you get connected to and settled into the BAE Systems community. You will be an integrated team member, collaborating with Systems, Hardware, and Test engineers in one or more phases of Design, Development, Integration, and Testing. You will prepare design and project documentation intended for use within complex programs or across sets of programs in accordance with established processes.
Responsibilities
- Develop embedded software for classified programs.
- Analyze, design, code, and modify complex software designs (typically in C++ and Python) for simple systems, subsystems, or subsystems of larger systems.
- Evaluate complex software designs to identify design flaws.
- Prepare design documentation in accordance with established processes.
- Utilize a Linux-based software development environment.
- Work with embedded targets ranging from ARM through high-performance x86-64 CPUs and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).
- Integrate and test in selected target test environments.
- Participate in external project interactions with other companies.
- Develop expertise in embedded system software.
Requirements
- Secret Clearance (active within the last two years).
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, and 2 years of related work experience or equivalent experience.
- Experience with Object-Oriented design, development practices, and implementation.
- Experience with Linux software development.
- Willingness to perform a wide variety of related tasks.
Preferred Skills
- Real-time embedded development.
- Experience using Python, Ada, or Modern C++.
- Agile Development experience.
- Experience using software collaboration and version control tools such as Jenkins, Jira, Confluence, BitBucket, and GitLab.
- Experience with Containers including Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.

Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $79,365 - $134,921. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
Schedule
We offer a flexible "9/80" schedule with every other Friday off.
