The Software organization develops applications that drive missiles, launchers, radars, naval systems, fire control, and other complex systems. These applications integrate firmware, operating systems, device drivers, networking, and control software to enable sensor, guidance, and flight control capabilities. With over 4,000 software engineers across multiple centers, we design, develop, and build innovative solutions for our customers.

This role is onsite in McKinney, TX; applicants must be in the area or willing to relocate.

About the role

Raytheon has an opportunity for an Embedded Software Engineer II to join our Surveillance Sensor Radio Frequency (RF) Solutions Engineering Team in the Dallas, TX area. You will work on the Silent Knight Radar, collaborating with agile teams to design and implement highly innovative systems. This position involves developing real-time embedded software, application software, and tools for next-generation capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in requirements, design, development, and testing of real-time embedded software, application software, and tools.
  • Develop new work products or enhance existing applications and systems.
  • Design, code, test, integrate, and document software solutions.
  • Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other professionals within Engineering.
  • Work on problems with defined scope, schedule, and expectations.
  • Maintain configuration management of software products following established development practices and processes.
  • Occasional business-related travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience developing, testing, and integrating real-time software applications written in C++ or closely related languages.
  • Experience with computer scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or Perl.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day one (Secret clearance preferred).

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance.
  • Development experience on Linux, VxWorks, or other Real-Time Operating Systems.
  • Experience working in lab environments with physical hardware (e.g., test benches, simulators).
  • Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established code bases.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum software development processes.
  • Experience with DevSecOps pipelines, including Static Code Analysis, Automated Build, and Automated Test techniques using CI/CD with Test-Driven Development.
  • Hands-on experience with Git for version control and GitLab for repository management.
  • Experience translating Matlab algorithms into C++ source code.
  • Understanding of Terrain Following/Terrain Avoidance systems.
  • Experience developing and integrating software for large Radar or other sensor systems.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $68,900 – $131,100 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Factors considered include role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Schedule

This is an onsite role based at our campus in McKinney, TX.
