Software Engineer II

About the role
The Software Engineer ll role at Compass involves working in a startup-like environment building agile products and services, designing and building distributed, event-driven microservices, independently defining, decomposing, and leading delivery of complex projects, performing code reviews, design reviews, and writing high-quality tests, becoming the subject matter expert for one or more services in your domain, creating clear and concise documentation, owning and operationally improving services in your domain throughout their lifecycle, identifying and removing bottlenecks to address inefficiencies in the developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in a startup-like environment building agile products and services
- Design and build distributed, event-driven microservices
- Independently define, decompose, and lead delivery of complex projects
- Perform code reviews, design reviews, and write high quality tests
- Become the subject matter expert for one or more services in your domain
- Create clear and concise documentation (diagrams, service descriptions, decisions, runbooks)
- Own and operationally improve services in your domain throughout their lifecycle
- Identify and remove bottlenecks to address inefficiencies in the developer experience
Requirements
- BS in CS or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years of software engineering experience with languages such as Java or Golang
- Experience with Kafka and Ruby on Rails is a plus
- Experience designing and building cloud-based services
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based services (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization, microservices architecture, and continuous integration and delivery
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Pay
The base pay range for this position is $126,990-$141,100; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
