About the role
We are seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems, working closely with other engineers to create solutions that meet client needs. You will work with modern tools and technologies in a dynamic, collaborative environment committed to delivering high-quality software solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop Java-based software capabilities with a strong focus on quality and testing.
- Integrate advanced AI agents (e.g., Claude Code, Google's Antigravity/Gemini) into daily software engineering workflows.
- Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementations, complex codebase refactoring, and automated generation of unit/integration tests.
- Guide AI agents through complex, multi-repository application architectures, managing context and auditing generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in software development.
- Work in a fast-paced, small business environment with a talented team.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Active Secret level U.S. Government Security Clearance (must maintain); U.S. Citizenship required.
- At least 5 years of experience in Software Engineering, or 3 years with a Master’s in a related field, or a High School Diploma/equivalent with 9 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries (e.g., Spring, Guava).
- Experience designing enterprise APIs and RESTful web services.
- Experience with Microservices architecture and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms.
- Experience with the Agile software lifecycle and configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Nexus, Maven).
- Comfortable working on a Linux command line.
- Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, and collaborate in a team setting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to review and compile information as needed.
- Hybrid work requirement: Ability to work on-site at customer facilities in Fort Meade, MD (minimum 1 day/week) and at company headquarters in Columbia, MD (minimum 1 day/week). Flexibility required, as on-site frequency may increase based on customer needs.
Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI clearance is a strong plus.
- Experience with cloud-based technologies (AWS, Azure).
- Experience with distributed databases, NoSQL databases, and full-text search engines (e.g., Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Solr).
- Scripting experience is a plus.
- Prior experience or familiarity with Data Lakes/Warehouses (specifically BDP or JCRS-D).
- Understanding of Agile methodologies and standard software development tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, GitHub Enterprise).

Pay
Anticipated salary range: $115,199.00 – $145,000.00. The range is based on role location, expectations, and responsibilities, with final offers considering factors such as function, internal equity, education, work experience, certifications, and key skills. Occasionally, positions may include additional non-recurrent compensation, discussed during the interview process.
