Software Engineer - HPC Linux (Top Secret/SCI with CI Poly to start)

North Point Technology is seeking a Senior HPC Linux Software Engineer to join an on-site Technical User Support team embedded within a High Performance Computing Research and Development program. This role requires an active Top Secret/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph to start.

About the role

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including a TUS team lead, program Chief Scientist, end users, and site staff to support and advance HPC modeling and simulation capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an active member of an on-site Technical User Support team, supporting HPC users through their modeling and simulation workflows
  • Develop and maintain software in heterogeneous multi-platform Linux environments
  • Analyze and debug existing codebases
  • Apply software engineering best practices including requirements analysis, design, coding, documentation, and unit testing
  • Conduct code reviews
  • Mentor junior engineers and scientists
  • Design and deliver training workshops, tutorials, and onboarding materials for HPC users and internal staff

Requirements

  • Modeling and simulation software development and use in heterogeneous, multi-platform environments
  • High Performance Computing (HPC) environment knowledge and related technologies
  • HPC user workflow support for modeling and simulation problems and GUIs
  • Proficiency in Fortran, C, and/or C++
  • Proficiency in BASH and Korn shell scripting
  • Linux operating system proficiency, including end-user system troubleshooting in a lab environment
  • Software development lifecycle practices including requirements, use cases, design, coding, documentation, and testing of scalable distributed applications in Linux
  • Unit testing and configuration management
  • Analysis, debugging, and maintenance of existing codebases
  • Code review facilitation and mentoring of junior engineers or scientists
  • Design and delivery of training workshops, tutorials, or onboarding materials for HPC users and internal staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting R&D programs in a classified or government laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with additional HPC scripting or workflow automation tools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related discipline
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph required to start
