Software Engineer - GDX Order Management
About the role
The Software Engineer position at Costco Wholesale is a critical role in driving the company's digital transformation. You will collaborate with team members to define project specifications and release documentation, conduct peer code reviews, and support release planning activities. Your responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining engineering best practices, mentoring and developing software engineers, and ensuring the longevity, scalability, and quality of our systems.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with team members to define project specifications and release documentation for all phases of the product development cycle from product definition to design, through implementation.
- Conduct peer code reviews for the software changes made by other engineers within a team.
- Support release planning activities in conjunction with Product Owners and teams.
- Stay accountable for the Order Management Platform’s overall architecture, strategically applying principles that promote availability, reusability, interoperability, and security within the design framework.
- Mentor and develop software engineers by providing guidance, coaching, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Establish and maintain coding standards, architectural patterns, and development processes.
- Work cross-functionally to pilot innovative technologies and capabilities that enhance overall member experience and drive business operational efficiencies.
- Perform development, optimization, and automation activities to support the implementation of the Order Management platform.
- Use test-driven development practices to assist with the detection of software defects early in the development process.
- Define specifications and documentation across all phases of the product development cycle, from design to implementation.
- Work with the product team on defining the product strategy and roadmap.
- Estimate, plan, and manage all implementation tasks and report on progress.
- Deliver innovative capabilities that enhance the member experience across various digital touchpoints.
- Build microservice components from the ground up.
- Ensure the longevity, scalability, and quality of our systems through continuous improvement, comprehensive documentation, meticulous profiling, and significant performance enhancements.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience with C#, TypeScript, REST, JSON, XML, YAML, GraphQL and OpenAPI.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in architecting, designing and developing containerized (Dockers/Kubernetes) services based on the .Net Core framework.
- 10+ years of experience developing and writing unit tests using NUnit or similar framework.
- 5+ years of experience leading development with engineers in multiple geographical locations and time zones.
- 5+ years of experience working on building scalable cloud native architecture.
- 5+ years of experience with CI/CD tools: GitHub, Jenkins.
- 10+ years of experience with API development, with an emphasis on security and performance.
- 5+ years of experience with microservice-based debugging and performance testing software.
- 10+ years of experience developing within an agile methodology.
- Solid knowledge of database application development in relational and no-SQL platforms.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate to both technical and Business audiences.
- Possess strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills, effectively conveying product vision and influencing a wide range of stakeholders across the organization.
- Able to work under pressure in crisis with a strong sense of urgency.
- Responsible, conscientious, organized, self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
- Detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze potential future issues.
- Able to support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.
Qualifications
- Recommended Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working in a retail ecommerce environment.
- Experience with Data modeling and Object-Oriented design.
- Knowledge of SOX, PII, PCI, CCPA, HIPPA regulations for transactions, security, and confidentiality.
- Experience with deploying and configuring Google Cloud Platform resources e.g. GKE, Pub/Sub, Spanner, BigQuery.
- Experience with MemoryStore, Redis or similar technologies.
- Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay
Pay ranges from Level 1 - $85,000 - $110,000 to Level SR - $150,000 - $190,000, with bonus and restricted stock unit (RSU) eligibility.
