About the role
Belvedere Trading is a leading proprietary trading firm headquartered in downtown Chicago. Our traders provide liquidity to the market through market-making activities across commodities, interest rates, exchange-traded funds (ETF), and equity index options. We invest in proprietary technology, building and optimizing our trading models and software systems from the ground up. As a Software Engineer at Belvedere Trading, you will develop low-latency, high-performance proprietary trading systems. You will participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, from design to testing to deployment. While a demonstrated interest in financial markets is a plus, no prior finance or trading knowledge is required—our Belvedere Trading University (BTU) program will provide the necessary training.
Responsibilities
- Enhance the proprietary trading software platform used by our traders daily and deliver software solutions to meet business needs.
- Design, implement, and debug complex low-latency trading applications.
- Balance optimization and readability to create efficient and extendable applications.
- Partner with team members to ensure software meets requirements, adheres to Belvedere’s coding standards, and integrates into our architecture with proper automated testing.
- Communicate with project managers and team leadership to develop work strategies.
- Collaborate in a team environment that encourages constant learning and innovation.
- Participate in our in-house learning and development curriculum (BTU) via peer-led lectures to gain knowledge about trading fundamentals and proprietary systems.
Requirements
- Graduating senior with a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (graduation date: December 2026 or May/June 2027).
- Experience with all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle, preferably using an object-oriented programming language such as C++, C#, or Java.
- Ability to live in or relocate to Chicago (this position is for the Chicago location only).

Pay
$140,000 a year. Certain positions at Belvedere Trading are eligible for discretionary bonuses.
Schedule
Regular and reliable attendance during standard business hours with the ability to be on-site prior to the start of business on occasion. No travel is required.
Additional Information
- For trading positions and certain engineering roles, the SIE and Series 57 licenses are required. Belvedere Trading provides comprehensive study materials and dedicated time during onboarding to help you obtain these certifications.
