About the Role

Join a team working on the world’s most advanced electronics, from reducing emissions in urban environments to powering the Mars Rover and protecting military aircraft like the F-35 and F-16. As an entry-level Software Engineer at BAE Systems Electronic Systems, you’ll collaborate with bright minds on complex Defense and Space software challenges. This role involves rapid development in a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on Test Equipment development, including coding, AI/ML integration, debugging, and testing of software/hardware systems. You may also support product demonstrations, software installation, and system testing through occasional business travel.

The position emphasizes Automated Test and software control of complex hardware systems, contributing to Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) solutions. You’ll help develop systems that sense, control, exploit, and disseminate actionable information for intelligence and defense customers.

All new engineers participate in the Year One (YO) program, a tailored experience to support your career growth. The program includes team bonding events, networking opportunities, training, self-improvement modules, and a peer mentor to guide you. This role requires U.S. Person status due to government contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, debug, and integrate software for Test Equipment and complex hardware systems.
  • Work with AI/ML services and perform regression and requirement testing of SW/HW systems.
  • Support product demonstrations, software installation, and system testing, including occasional business travel.
  • Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team to deliver C4ISR solutions for defense and intelligence customers.
  • Apply Object-Oriented Analysis & Design (OOAD) and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
  • Control and integrate electronics and hardware via software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science (with hardware knowledge). Applicable electrical/hardware work or hobby experience can substitute for hardware coursework in Computer Science programs.
  • For Eng II - SW: Master’s degree required.
  • 0–6 months of full-time software engineering experience (internships excluded).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Federal Government security clearance.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and/or Java.
  • Understanding of software design, Object-Oriented Analysis & Design (OOAD), and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
  • Experience or knowledge in electronics and hardware control via software.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills in a dynamic, agile environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable to rapid development timelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in multiple high-level programming languages.
  • Prior internship or research experience in a related field.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, or engineering instructions for software/hardware debugging.
  • Extracurricular involvement (e.g., campus organizations, clubs, community service).
  • Familiarity with tools such as Visual Studio, Git/BitBucket, Jira, Jenkins, .Net, Python, CI/CD pipelines, or SQL.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $59,023 – $100,339. Individual salaries are determined by factors including skills, education, experience, local market conditions, and internal equity.
