This opportunity resides with Global Security (GS) within HII Mission Technologies. The Global Security group delivers live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) solutions; fleet sustainment; nuclear and environmental services; and Australia business operations. As a trusted partner to military customers, HII designs and operates the largest LVC enterprise for cross-domain battle readiness. With over 40 years of experience, HII maintains and modernizes the majority of the U.S. Navy’s fleet, ensuring high readiness across maritime defense systems. Additionally, HII supports the Department of Energy’s national security mission through site management, operations, and environmental cleanup.

About the role

HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Software Engineer to develop space combat power and multi-domain simulation software. This software supports force structure planning, Digital Test and Training – Synthetic Environment, Joint Combatant Command analysis and operations, Space Force testing and training, and research and development of space systems. As a Software Engineer, you will maintain and manage workflow for junior engineers while leading projects under the Space Protection and Response Solution program.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with the team via Confluence, Discourse, GitLab, and Jira.
  • Perform code reviews and ensure high work quality.
  • Work with government leadership to keep the team on course.
  • Engage with customers to capture requirements and feedback.
  • Update status and present progress to leadership and customers.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research to support team development and modeling objectives.
  • Contribute to broader team vision and direction discussions.
  • Participate in simulation software architecture discussions.
  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug space simulation software.

Requirements

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; 3 years with a Master’s; or 0 years with a PhD; or a High School Diploma/equivalent with 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in C++.
  • Completion of a technical coding challenge in C++.
  • Understanding of compiling, linking, and debugging C++ applications.
  • Experience in constructive agent-based, event-driven modeling and simulation.
  • Basic space knowledge (e.g., coordinate systems, time, orbital propagation).
  • Passion for problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Python proficiency, including embedded Python applications.
  • Space domain awareness knowledge.
  • Space combat power knowledge.
  • Math or physics background.
  • Parallel software development knowledge.
  • Experience with U.S. and Allied space enterprise positions.
  • Active DoD Secret or Top-Secret Clearance.

Pay

Anticipated salary range: $96,951 – $104,000.
