About the Role
This role sits at the intersection of backend software engineering and data engineering. You will develop scalable backend services, design and maintain data pipelines, and build the underlying data infrastructure that enables reliable, cost-effective, and high-performance data processing. You'll work closely with other engineering teams, data consumers, and infrastructure specialists to build robust solutions that balance technical excellence with delivering business value.
- Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs in Python that support data ingestion, processing, and distribution.
- Building and maintaining reliable data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured data from a wide variety of internal and external sources.
- Developing reusable frameworks and tooling that simplify onboarding new data sources and improve developer productivity.
- Designing and optimizing scalable data platforms, including databases, data lakes, metadata catalogues, and storage solutions.
- Continuously improving the reliability, scalability, observability, and cost-efficiency of our data infrastructure.
- Integrating data across multiple systems while reducing duplication and ensuring high data quality.
- Developing and maintaining orchestration workflows and automated data processing pipelines.
- Building internal libraries and services that enable other engineering teams to access and consume data efficiently.
- Monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing production systems and data pipelines.
- Contributing to architecture discussions and technical decisions across the data platform.
- Collaborating closely with software engineers, data engineers, infrastructure engineers, and data consumers to deliver high-impact solutions.
- Continuously identifying opportunities to simplify systems, improve automation, and reduce operational overhead.
About You
This person will be an experienced and pragmatic full-stack engineer, who enjoys building scalable systems that solve real business problems. They will be comfortable operating in a commercial environment, collaborating with international teams, and have a proven track record of taking initiative and accountability. As a result, the following background, experiences and skills are essential for application:
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with professional experience building production backend systems and services with Python.
- Front-end development experience, including building maintainable, user-facing applications and interfaces using Node.js, React, and React-Redux.
- Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Experience building and maintaining data pipelines, including infrastructure automation.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with both relational & analytical databases.
- Experience working with AWS services such as ECS, SQS, RDS, Athena, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, or related technologies.
- Experience with containerized applications and modern software delivery practices.
- Familiarity with messaging and asynchronous processing patterns.
As a result, the following is not required, but highly desirable for this role:
- Full lifecycle, server-side and client-side, experience with Websocket.
- Experience leveraging AI tools and agentic AI solutions to accelerate software development and business workflows, including LLMs, MCPs, tools, skills, knowledge bases, vector databases, AWS Bedrock, LangChain, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow.
- Experience with streaming platforms such as Kafka.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and cloud-native architectures.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and high-throughput data processing.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and performance tuning.
