About the Role
Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Software Lead Engineer – Embedded Communications to lead software engineering activities for mission-critical communication systems. The role combines advanced embedded software development with technical leadership, program execution, cost and schedule management, and customer requirement analysis. The engineer will work with high-performance teams developing secure and complex systems where reliability and mission success are critical.
Responsibilities
- Lead embedded software engineering activities using C/C++ and Python.
- Drive software development excellence across the full development lifecycle.
- Lead technical proposals and program-level cost estimates.
- Coordinate software execution for small engineering teams.
- Translate customer requirements into comprehensive system solutions.
- Manage program cost, schedule, risks, and opportunities.
- Track program performance in alignment with earned value management.
- Identify technical and program risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Support product ownership, scope management, and backlog management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and program teams.
- Support development of complex embedded communication systems.
Qualifications
- STEM degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.
- Experience with Cost Account Management for engineering teams.
- Experience developing and managing Integrated Master Schedules for multi-year programs.
- Experience using risk and opportunity frameworks.
- Product Owner experience, including scope and backlog management.
- Active and transferable Secret security clearance required.
- U.S. citizenship required.
Required Skills
- Experience with multithreaded real-time embedded applications.
- Experience leading technical proposals and bidding activities.
- Experience with the SEER parametric estimation tool.
- Agile development experience.
- Technical leadership within Agile teams.
- TCP/IP network application development experience.
- UML experience.
- Knowledge of cross-domain solutions.
