Software Engineer
Red Hat Identity Management (IdM) Engineering is looking for a Software Engineer to develop the next generation of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) features in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and the Red Hat Certificate System, and to contribute to open-source projects like Dogtag PKI. This role is ideal for engineers passionate about open source and enterprise/public-sector critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality PKI solutions, own code quality, and contribute to testing frameworks.
- Participate in the full development cycle: requirements gathering, scoping, coding, testing, and verification.
- Practice defensive programming to deliver stable, high-quality software for Red Hat customers and upstream communities.
- Communicate and collaborate with developers and teams inside and outside Red Hat.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Professional or academic experience with Java or Rust.
- Knowledge of Linux operating system and its development tools (any distribution).
- Experience with PKI, cryptography, and general system/software security technologies.
- Experience using AI agents to accelerate development efforts.
- Good written and verbal communication in English.
Nice to have
- Experience with autonomous agentic software-defined lifecycle.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, JIRA).
- Experience with Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience with software testing, CI/CD, and related frameworks.
- Experience with package maintenance on Fedora/RHEL.
- Experience with hybrid cloud systems or frameworks (e.g., OpenShift, AWS, Microsoft Azure).

Pay
The salary range for this position is $96,440.00 – $154,190.00. Actual offer will be based on qualifications. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity.
