About the role

This position is an integral member of an agile software engineering team responsible for building complex, scalable software applications across all digital channels to serve customers. The role involves taking an enterprise-wide architectural view of solutions and executing technical products using the stack that best meets platform needs. The team participates in every aspect of the software development lifecycle, from idea generation and business analysis to technical design and development using the latest technologies and design patterns.

The candidate will monitor production jobs, identify and address production issues promptly, and recommend or implement proactive resolutions. Issue resolution requires root cause analysis, data analysis, debugging, data fixes, and reprocessing with a strong understanding of process flows. The ideal candidate has production support experience and is willing to work nonstandard hours if necessary. Strict ownership, attention to detail, and flexibility with work time and team collaboration are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create engineering specifications for software applications and programs.
  • Write code that adheres to coding standards and perform code reviews.
  • Generate ideas, explore, and implement appropriate technical solutions to achieve product features while monitoring technical progress against the project plan to safeguard functionality, scalability, and performance.
  • Participate in all Scrum ceremonies, assist in sprint planning, and complete sprints from development through final execution of software applications.
  • Communicate issues or blockers to the Scrum Master in a timely manner.
  • Drive story creation (Definition of Done, Acceptance Criteria, estimation), create tasks for stories in tools like RTC or Jira, and update status and assignments accordingly.
  • Monitor work against the production schedule, provide progress updates, and report technical difficulties to lead developers regularly.
  • Mentor other associate software engineers as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis, data analysis, debugging, and implement data fixes or reprocessing to resolve production issues.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field (required).
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years of proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns for building and deploying scalable, highly available systems.
  • 3+ years of experience in at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, or Informatica preferred).
  • Experience with at least two of the following: React, Angular v4+, NodeJS, NoSQL databases, HTML5, CSS, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon Web Services.
  • Understanding of web services technologies such as REST, HTTPS, and JSON.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Java, Python (Django/Flask), C/C++, C#, Objective C, JavaScript, or Go.
  • Production support experience, including root cause analysis, data analysis, log file interpretation, and monitoring/addressing processing issues.
  • Strong SQL and/or PL/SQL skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to lead other developers or small technical initiatives.
  • 1-3 years of Cognos development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility trade-offs to optimize short-term execution while planning for long-term technical capabilities.
  • 5+ years of experience working with a variety of technology systems, designing solutions, or developing applications in healthcare.
  • 5+ years of experience translating design mockups, prototypes, and user stories into working applications.
  • 5+ years of experience producing fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable code.

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodology.
  • Interest and ability to learn other programming languages as needed.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, unit testing, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Strong track record in designing and implementing large-scale, consumer-facing applications.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
  • Demonstrated passion for user experience and improving usability.
  • Experience and willingness to mentor junior engineers and help develop their skills and leadership.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum: $86,400.00

Pay Range Maximum: $138,600.00

Base pay is determined by a variety of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations. Geographic differentials may apply for certain locations.

Schedule

  • Position Type: Office-based.
  • Travel: 0% - 25%.
  • May require nonstandard work hours for production support.
