Software Engineer (AI Native)
About the role
We’re looking for engineers who think differently about how software gets built. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who actively uses modern AI tooling and agents as part of their real development workflow and understands how cloud systems work.
- Design and implement scalable services in a cloud environment
- Contribute to architecture decisions with guidance from senior engineers
- Build and maintain APIs and service integrations
- Use AI agents to assist with coding, testing, refactoring, and debugging
- Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness and maintainability
- Improve performance, reliability, and observability of existing systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Continuously evaluate and improve your AI-assisted development workflow
Requirements
- 3–6 years of experience shipping production software
- Experience building or contributing to cloud-based applications (AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar)
- Understanding of service-based or microservices architectures
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)
- Experience with Docker (or similar), CI/CD pipelines, and Git
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
We are not optimizing for a specific programming language. We care more about your system understanding and engineering judgment.
AI Expectations
You don’t need to have built your own agent framework — but you should:
- Actively use AI coding assistants in your day-to-day development
- Be able to explain how you validate AI-generated outputs
- Have experimented with running multiple agents or workflows in parallel
- Understand when not to rely on AI
- Be thoughtful about code quality, security, and edge cases
We’re interested in how you think about leverage, not just how fast you type.
Bonus Points
- Experience working on high-availability SaaS platforms
- Familiarity with messaging systems (Kafka or similar)
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code
- Exposure to observability tools (monitoring, tracing, alerting)
- Experience integrating AI services or APIs into applications
Additional Application Requirement
Along with your resume, please submit a ~3-minute screen recording showing how you incorporate AI agents into your development workflow. You may email it to hr@lightspeedsystems.com. We’re not evaluating production polish — we’re evaluating how you think and how you use AI as a tool.
